We are incredibly excited to launch our podcast, ‘The Storm and the Light’ today. Podcasts are ubiquitous these days, and they are a powerful way for people to teach, communicate ideas, and share stories with their listeners. When we decided to launch our own podcast, we wanted to:
1. Tell stories about people in cybersecurity
2. Focus on the stories about them that most people haven’t heard yet
The Storm and the Light dives beneath the surface to bring you the stories of people from the world of cybersecurity, shining a light on who they really are, and what made them the people they are today. Along the way, we will strive to understand our guests better, and glean lessons from their lives that might help us become better people and professionals.
We chose “The Storm and the Light” as the title of our podcast to pay homage to our name, ‘Oxeye’, which was the word that sailors shouted when they saw a mass of clouds that signaled an impending storm. That choice isn’t accidental; we believe that amidst the chaos of application security, that we’re a shining beacon that will lead people out of the turmoil.
The Storm and the Light also refers to the dual nature of individuals - the public persona that most people are familiar with, and the side that few people get to see. We’re focusing on bringing the latter to life, and in doing so, hopefully entertain, educate and inspire those who listen.
Humans have been telling stories since the dawn of our existence, first, through the rich oral traditions that pervade all cultures, to stories told through images that are tens of thousands of years old (such as the El Castillo paintings in Spain and the ones in Lascaux in France), to handwritten and printed books, radio, TV, the movies, and now, podcasts. We feel humbled that our guests trust us with their personal stories, their introspection, their struggles, and the lessons they’ve learned in their lives. We present them to you in the hope that you’ll find something meaningful in each one.
